The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has acquired four Super Muhsak Trainer Aircraft from Pakistan to be used to train pilots.
NAF Chief of Air Staff Sadique Abubakar formally received the planes from Pakistani Cir Chief Marshal Sohail Aman in Kaduna State. Mr. Abubakar said the aircrafts would allow the NAF to improve its training of pilots, thus increasing their capacity to fight Boko Haram insurgents.
While the aircrafts will be used primarily for training purposes, they can also be used for military missions, according to the Air Marshal.
The Pakistani Chief of Air Staff said the addition of the new aircraft would boost the NAF’s capabilities in the fight against terrorism and lauded the NAF for its progress in the counterterrorist operation. He also stressed the importance of strategic partnerships in the fight against terrorism.
“I am confident that together we can befittingly respond to these challenges. The convergence of our perceptions on different global issues ensures tremendous scope for our two nations for greater understanding and closer cooperation,” Mr. Aman said.
Mr. Abubakar saw the acquisition as an important step in Nigeria’s war on Boko Haram.
“The NAF has made tremendous progress in platform reactivation, training and welfare of personnel,” he said. The Air Marshal said that there are plans in place to acquire 4 additional aircrafts as well as four gunships, four utility helicopters, and three light attack aircrafts.
