APC Asks Police, DSS To Investigate INEC Activities In Ondo State

The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of being compromised ahead of the November 26th, 2016 governorship election in the State.

The party specifically accused the officers of the electoral body in the State of plotting to help the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rig the forthcoming poll.
A statement issued by the party on Wednesday called on the Nigeria Police Force and the Directorate of the State Security Service to thoroughly investigate the activities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the State.
Omo'ba Abayomi Adesanya, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, signed the electronic statement sent to journalists and obtained by SaharaReporters in Akure.
Mr. Adesanya accused the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Segun Agbaje, and the Commission's Administrative Secretary, Alhaji Kabir Omosanya, of complicity with the faction of the PDP in Ondo State led by Clement Faboyede.
He alleged that the two top officers of the commission have been having shoddy deals through an unholy alliance with some other key loyalists of the embattled Governor Olusegun Mimiko to perpetrate fraud ahead of the forthcoming governorship poll.
"There is obviously something fundamentally wrong with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State which needs to be investigated by the security agencies before the November 26th 2016 governorship election,” Mr. Adesanya said.
"Unarguably, the INEC ought to be an unbiased umpire in any electoral process as entrenched in the law of establishment, but sadly the case is a reversal in Ondo State.
"We are not comfortable with the unholy relationship between the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Segun Agbaje, and the Administrative Secretary, Kabir Omosanya, who have been having a romance with a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State led by its embattled Chairman, Clement Faboyede.
"Specifically, Kabir Omosanya has been having secret dealings with Mr. Faboyede, who is a key loyalist of the embattled Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State.
"Although, this is no longer news to the good people of the State, as they have seen INEC in Ondo State under Agbaje and Omosanya as an extension of PDP and Governor Olusegun Mimiko's office.
"However, as a political Party, we [APC] seem to have lost confidence in the ability of these two main principal officers of INEC to organize and create a conducive atmosphere for a free and fair election in the State due to their past records.
"One of such records is the poor and inconclusive bye-election of the Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency in 2010 and the atrocities perpetrated in the 2015 shoddy House of Assembly General elections in the State.
"Therefore, we as a political party urge the national body of the Commission to do the needful by calling its officers in Ondo State to order and to avoid playing partisan politics as the residents of the State prepare for the governorship election in November.
"And we further called on the DSS and police to thoroughly investigate Segun Agbaje and mostly Kabir Omosanya for fraud, corruption, partisanship and unprofessional conduct," the statement reads.

The APC publicist further added that the national electoral body should carry out an overhaul, especially of its staff in Ondo State ahead of the 26th November 2016 governorship election.
