The late Mrs. Agbaheme, a trader, was known to be a peaceful and decent woman.
Bridget Agbaheme, the woman beheaded by youths in Kano on Thursday evening for her alleged 'blasphemy,' has been identified as an Igbo woman from Imo State.
The late Mrs. Agbaheme, a trader, was known to be a peaceful and decent woman.
A trader at the Kofar Wambai market told our correspondent, "I knew her as woman that respected people and I doubt she made any statement capable of blasphemy.
“Mrs. Bridget Agbaheme had many customers buying goods from her petty trading along the roadside but I suspect maybe her enemies ignited this against her."
In a press statement made available to SaharaReporters in Kano State, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Kano State expressed sadness and grief over her violent death.
The statement was signed by the President of the Ndigbo and his secretary, Chief Chris Chukwubuzor Asuka and Chief Damian Obisike, respectively.
“We wish to condemn the extrajudicial murder of Mrs. Bridget Agbaheme and we call on the authorities to take every step needed to properly investigate the incident so as to ascertain exactly what happened and to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
“We are worried by the alarming culture of violence and bloodshed in Nigeria where faceless elements take laws into their own hands, often on the grounds of religion, without recourse to the rule of law," the statement read.
The statement also called on all Kano citizens, especially the Sabon Gari Community, to remain calm and law-abiding while the incident is being investigated.
According to them, Islam and Christianity are religions of peace and we all have a duty of respecting our religion and that of others, and must not engage in acts capable of provoking ethnic or religious tensions under whatever guise.
