Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Messrs. Wole Olanipekun, an ex-President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and Afe Babalola are among Nigerians billed to participate at a two-day Summit on Administration of Justice organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice.
Mr. Osinbajo, according to a statement issued on Monday by the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, will be the keynote speaker at the summit, while Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, governor of Lagos State, will be the special guest of honor.
According to Mr. Kazeem, the summit, which has the theme, "Contemporary Trends: Catalysts for Justice Sector Reform in Lagos State," will hold on 30 and 31 January at Eko Convention Centre of Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Participants are expected to discuss and come with ideas capable of improving the justice sector. The Lagos State Attorney-General explained that the summit was conceived as a platform for an exchange of knowledge and ideas and is expected to feature about 25 high-level speakers drawn from within and outside the country.
He said the sessions prepared for the summit would consist of plenary, panelist discussions, a variety of deep, interactive sessions as well as robust discussions on the most topical issues in justice administration. Topics for discussion, he added, will range from criminal administration to appraisal of civil procedure, ethics and efficient court administration.
On the rationale for the summit, Mr. Kazeem said:
“There is the need to continue to update our laws and policies to create an enabling environment for investors and tourists, and the best way to do this is through contributions and participation of stakeholders.” Other legal luminaries lined up to participate in the summit include human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN); former Lagos State Attorney- General and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ade Ipaye; Justice Chile Eboe-Osuji of the International Criminal Court; and former Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Mr. Fola Arthur- Worrey.
