Following heavy bombardment by Alpha Jets of the Nigeria Air Force on Tuesday, Boko Haram Terrorists have abandoned their camp at Iza in Borno State and fled into Sambisa Forest, spokesman Ayodele Famuyiwa said in a press statement.
Group Captain Famuyiwa said the success of the air attack paved the way for a follow-up clearance operation by troops of the121 Task Force Battalion who moved in to flush out the remnants of the fleeing militants and destroyed their leftover camps.
“During the ground movement, the Mi-35 Helicopter gunships were overhead to provide Close Air Support for the advancing troops while the Beechcraft aircraft supported with Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance,” he added.
According to Famuyiwa, “The fall of Iza and its liberation by own troops further attests to the recent gains recorded by the military in the combined efforts to rid the Country of the menace posed by the religious sect.”
