200 Boko Haram members surrender as troops gain more towns

Two hundred members of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, have surrendered after a fierce battle with Nigerian troops in Banki town, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

This was disclosed, on Friday, when top military officers paid Sallah homage to the commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General YM Abubakar.

Abubakar said with the successes being recorded in the fight to end the insurgency, the military is optimistic that they are going to meet the December target given by President Muhammadu Buhari.

General Abubakar also said that the military had arrested a suspected member of the Boko Haram who was on surveillance at Madinatu Mosque around state low cost with the aim of planting Improvise Explosive Device at the mosque.

According to him, the arrested sect member helped the military with information which led to the arrest of three sect members that planted bomb at Ajilari Cross which killed many people and worshippers in a mosque recently.

In addition, the troops destroyed seven Boko Haram camps and successfully defused seven Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) between Darel Jamal and Banki.

During the encounter to recapture the town, several Boko Haram terrorists were said to have been killed and several others captured between Banki junction and Ngorosoye.
